A page of history: the origins of the Foundation
In the 1960s, Hans Hartung and Anna-Eva Bergman settled in Antibes, attracted by the light and tranquility of the South of France.
Together, they designed their villa-atelier, a place to live and create.
The Fondation, created in 1994 at their request, aims to preserve their artistic legacy and share their vision of abstraction with the world.
Today, it is a research and exhibition site of international stature.
Who is Anna-Eva Bergman?
An artist fascinated by infinity
Norwegian artist Anna-Eva Bergman (1909-1987) established herself as a major figure in abstract art.
Inspired by Nordic landscapes, light and natural forms, she explored universal themes such as the stars, the horizon and telluric elements.
Her style is distinguished by the innovative use of metal sheets, which bring a spiritual dimension to her works.

Who is Hans Hartung?
The master of lyrical abstraction
Hans Hartung (1904-1989), a German painter, was one of the pioneers of lyrical abstraction.
Fascinated by natural phenomena such as lightning flashes, he transcribed their energy in works with dynamic, spontaneous gestures.
Despite hardship, notably the loss of a leg during the war, his art embodies an uncommon vitality.
At the Fondation, his emblematic works reveal his research into gesture and his experiments with a variety of tools, such as branches and sprayers.
Temporary exhibitions
The Foundation regularly organizes temporary exhibitions.
In 2024-2025, it will showcase the couple's travels and places of residence, including Paris, Oslo, Menorca and Antibes.
Among the highlights, the reverse side of Hartung's T1945-10 will be unveiled for the first time, along with recent acquisitions such as Anna-Eva Bergman's Clavecin doré.
