The history of the Museum of Fine Arts

Villa built for Ukrainian princess Elisabeth Kotchoubey in 1878. In 1925, the city of Nice purchased this Belle-Epoque villa.

She modified it and turned it into the Musée des Beaux-Arts, known as the "Palais des Arts de Jules Chéret".

The interior of the villa has been extensively modified to enable it to become a museum. However, the grand staircase remains as it was in the villa at the time of the princess.

The painting and sculpture collections cover more than five centuries from the 13th to the 20th century: Van Loo, Fragonard, Chéret, Dufy, the Impressionists, Rodin, Carpeaux.
