The Troupes de Marine Museum
The Musée des troupes de Marine is a museum of history, art, science and technology, military traditions and human adventure.
The museum presents a history illustrated by archives and iconographic documents, as well as a wide range of artifacts.
Open since October 1981, this place of memory and history is dedicated to the Troupes de Marine, a French army unit specialized in amphibious operations and overseas missions.
Founded in 1921, the Troupes de Marine Museum is located in Fréjus in the Boyer barracks, a former headquarters of the Troupes de Marine.
Discover a rich collection of objects and archives relating to the history of the Troupes de Marine from their creation in 1622 to the present day.
You can see: uniforms, weapons, equipment, models, paintings, photographs and historical documents...
With its 800 m² of exhibition space, the museum retraces the entire history of the Troupes de Marine from year to year.
From a blunderbuss pistol dating back to the time of Louis XVI, to a model of a 74-gun vessel, to a weathercock from Bazeilles, the museum displays some 4,500 objects representing the traditions of the French Navy over 400 years.
The museum association regularly buys or collects collectors' items.
These include equipment, accessories, insignia, weapons, uniforms and documents designed to enhance existing records and archives.
These objects then become the property of the State.
