Marc Chagall Museum: his collection
The visit to the Marc Chagall Museum is conceived as a poetic journey into the artist's world.
Founded around the masterly cycle of the Biblical Message, the collection consists of nearly 1000 works that testify to the great diversity of the artist's artistic practices.
Paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, ceramics, but also stained glass, tapestry and mosaics make up a unique body of work in which technical virtuosity, a hymn to colour and a universal message of peace are combined.
an audioguide is provided with the entrance ticket. Audio translations are available in French, English, Italian, German, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, etc.
Free visit every 1st Sunday of the month.
The Museum and its garden
In a modernist, open and luminous architecture, the Museum was designed by André Hermant during the artist's lifetime.
Marc Chagall (1887-1985) incorporated exceptional works such as The Creation of the World. Magnificent stained glass window bathing the concert hall in its blue light. The building was designed as a house where spirituality promotes serenity.
Located on the Cimiez hill, the museum is surrounded by a Mediterranean garden, composed by the landscape gardener Henri Fisch in a harmony of green, blue and white.
The very flowery garden that borders it reflects this quietness with Mediterranean essences.
Visit the Museum in a different way with its cultural season: Concerts, events with the Monté-Carlo ballets or the MANCA festival are organized throughout the year.
The Musée National Marc Chagall invites students from the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Nice to perform, as well as the Ppéra de Nice and the Ballets de Monte-Carlo.
National museums of the 20th century
The Marc Chagall National Museum is one of the three national museums of the 20th century in the Alpes-Maritimes:
- Marc Chagall in Nice,
- Fernand Léger to Biot,
- Pablo Picasso, War and Peace in Vallauris,
These 3 museums present an exceptional collection of works by three great 20th-century artists. Each attracted by the light and artistic environment of the Côte d'Azur. As monographic museums, they offer visitors privileged spaces to contemplate and learn about the works.
The tour of the collections is regularly enriched by exhibitions highlighting the creative force and topicality of these three masters of modern art.
