An exhibition by Jean-Marie Gallais

Jean-Marie Gallais, art curator and former director of the Max Hetzler Gallery in Berlin, then Paris, creates the exhibition "The Inner Island" for the Carmignac Foundation. It brings together fifty artists from around the world: Canada, Spain, Nigeria, Germany, France, Poland...

One of his objectives through the exhibition, is to bring the visitor, through the island of Porquerolles and the works he faces, in his own Inner Island.

"The starting point is the island, and the question: what exhibition can we do here that we couldn't really do elsewhere? The freedom of the theme comes from insularity: a space apart, an island allows the invention of other realities, other worlds, it opens the imagination.

This starting point also comes from the specificity of Porquerolles, which welcomes a large number of tourists every summer, to the point of threatening its balance. The Villa Carmignac attracts some of them, and the challenge was to create a very open contemporary art exhibition that could embark the visitor, who does not know exactly what he will find, in an adventure in which he is the hero in a way.

However, there is nothing heroic about it: a confrontation with the power of works of art, the power of evocation and imagination, of reflection, of emotion."

The Carmignac Foundation's exhibition The Inner Island 2023

Come to the Villa Carmignac to discover the new exhibition "The Inner Island". From April 29 to November 5, 2023, it's a real journey to an island destination that awaits you! The Carmignac Foundation will be exhibiting 80 works of art, sculptures and paintings.

Between fiction and reality, this exhibition opens the visitors to the imagination. Like the islands, the Fondation Carmignac seeks to create an autonomous creative space for its visitors. The interest is that everyone can see different realities through the works exhibited.

The visit begins with what you see from the outside: a Mediterranean villa, flooded with natural light.
Little by little, the exhibition is transformed into a dreamlike journey with works that distort reality. It is notably during the descent into the basement that we enter a reality invisible from the outside. The Fondation Carmignac hopes that visitors will perceive the works exhibited as a manifestation of another world.

The Carmignac Foundation

Only ten minutes from the coast of the continent, disembark on the island of Porquerolles.

Find, in this green setting, the Villa Carmignac. The latter hosts the eponymous foundation.

The villa, composed of 15 hectares of land, is dedicated to contemporary art. About fifteen sculptures are also exposed in the garden of the villa.

There are 2000 m2 of exhibition space available to visitors. The exhibitions are bathed in natural light offered by the island, and sublimated by a water ceiling. Find there, among others, the works of great artists: Miquel Barcelo, Nils Udo, Wang Keping...

Creative workshops for children

This summer, get your kids involved in creative workshops.

These workshops take place every Thursday in July and August, from 2 to 4 pm. The Carmignac Foundation invites children aged 6 to 12 to create a work of art inspired by their visit to the exhibition "L'île Intérieure".

Accompanied by a mediator, the children first take part in a tour of the exhibition. Then, they create, with their imagination, a production related to the sculptures and paintings seen during the exhibition.

Budding artists can leave with their masterpiece.
