Béatrice de Rothschild: Patron and Garden Enthusiast
Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild, born in 1864, was a French art collector and patron of the arts during the Belle Époque.
She was also known for her great passion for gardens and horticulture, particularly roses, which led her to create exceptional gardens at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on the Côte d'Azur.
Design of the Villa Ephrussi Gardens
Béatrice conceived these gardens as a series of tableaux vivants, drawing inspiration from different styles and periods, from the French garden to the Japanese garden.
The rose garden, in particular, was and remains a central feature of these gardens, reflecting her love of roses.
Although I have no specific details of a rose named directly after Beatrice, her contribution to horticulture and her passion for roses are clearly immortalized in the design of her gardens.
Cultural and tourism impact of the Villa Ephrussi
The Villa and its gardens are often the site of floral festivals and events, such as the Rose Festival, which celebrate not only the beauty of roses and plants, but also Beatrice's legacy as a knowledgeable horticulturist and lover of nature.
The gardens continue to attract visitors from all over the world, fascinated by their beauty and rich history.
