Take a trip to the Gorges du Verdon

In my opinion, the Gorges du Verdon is one of the top 5 places to visit in the South of France.
It's a must for all kinds of activities on land, in the sea or in the air.

You'll find plenty of accommodation around Gorges du Verdon.

A breathtaking landscape!

I confess I'm not very good at geography.

On the other hand, to visualize the area covered by these gorges and note that it is the largest canyon in Europe, the Gorges du Verdon draw a kind of imaginary border between the Var department to the south and the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence to the north.

Frankly, it's a must in the region. Indeed, to say that the place is beautiful is an understatement. I don't find any qualifiers unless I fall into the clichéd superlatives.

Along the way, you'll be faced with crystal-clear waters and towering cliffs, a truly picture-postcard landscape.

Visitors can enjoy the beauty of the area by driving along the many scenic roads that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding gorges and mountains.

Look at some pictures on the internet and imagine that it is even more beautiful. The only thing I am sure of is that nobody can regret his visit to the Gorges du Verdon.

Multiple activities available

The Gorges du Verdon are an ideal place for those who love outdoor activities. Believe me when I tell you that there are over fifty activities to choose from!

For example, you can rent a canoe for the day, go horseback riding or enjoy a relaxing 1-hour massage.

If you like water sports or hiking in impressive landscapes, you will enjoy yourself and have the very pleasant feeling of making a real break... Even if only for a weekend.

That's what we decided to do on June 2, when we headed for Lac de Sainte-Croix.

This is definitely the period I'd recommend, as we avoided the summer crowds while still enjoying the mild weather and water temperatures of around 25 degrees: top-notch!

Whether you're looking for a group rafting experience, a peaceful hike or a solo climbing adventure, this beautiful region of France has something for everyone.

Where to stay in the Gorges du Verdon ?

We arrived late Saturday afternoon. We had decided to rent a small furnished apartment in the village of Rougon, a must-see among all the other villages in the region.

You can also visit Castellane or La Palud sur Verdon. We had hesitated with the waterside camping option, but given this year's rainy spring, we didn't want to take any chances.

We went there especially for the Nautilac festival. After an evening stroll and dinner in a typical little restaurant and a very good night's sleep, on Sunday morning we were able to try out the paddle.

At first, I didn't feel very reassured, but I quickly got into the rhythm. In the end, I found this ride on the water to be a pleasure, all glide and zenitude.

We spent the rest of the day by the lake enjoying the entertainment and the setting. It was an absolutely great weekend that we intend to repeat as soon as possible. We would like, for the next time, to camp at the edge of water.
