Transforming the Museum of Classical Art into a FAMM
The transformation of the Musée d'Art Classique into FAMM
Welcome to Mougins, the little corner of paradise where art, history and Provencal charm meet!
In 2011, Christian Levett, a British collector with a passion for art and history, opened the Musée d'Art Classique de Mougins (MACM).
This museum was a popular destination for lovers of antiques and classical works.
But, because even museums are entitled to a little mid-life crisis, in 2023 Levett decided to give the MACM a facelift to better reflect his evolving tastes.
On June 21, 2024, the museum opened its doors under a brand new name: FAMM (Femmes Artistes du Musée de Mougins), devoted exclusively to works by female artists from around the world.
Radical change, isn't it?
The New FAMM
FAMM puts the spotlight on women in art, a field in which they have often been the great forgotten.
The museum presents over one hundred works by more than 80 female artists, spanning various artistic movements from the 20th century to the present day.
This initiative aims to redress historical imbalances in the recognition of female artists, providing a platform to explore and celebrate female creativity in contemporary art.
It's often said that behind every great man is a woman, but here, we're putting them front and center 🙂 !
