Denmark and Cycling
Denmark is known as one of the greenest and happiest countries in the world.
Cycling plays a key role in this status.
In Denmark, cycling is part of everyday life, part of their DNA.
It is more than a century since the Danes discovered the Tour de France.
"Denmark is an ideal partner for the Tour de France. The Danish Grand Départ will be an opportunity to showcase some of our country's most beautiful and iconic regions and highlight our unique cycling culture where cycling is a way of life."
LARS WEISS President of the Copenhagen Grand Départ Committee Denmark
But the Copenhagen Grand Départ is above all the emergence of a conquering generation that has already begun to shine with, among others, Magnus Cort Nielsen, Soren Kragh Andersen and Jonas Vingegaard.

9 new cities or stages!
For the first time, 9 cities will host the Tour de France:
1/ Copenhagen (start and finish 1st stage)
2/ Roskilde (start 2nd stage)
The dynasty of Danish kings and queens, Roskilde was the country's capital for five centuries. The city's current fame is due more to its music festival. More than 100,000 spectators come every year to see the best of the pop, rock, rap and reggae scene on stage. As early as 1978, Bob Marley performed here, paving the way for U2, Sting, Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Oasis, Björk, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Eminem and Bruno Mars.
The old Roskilde circuit was also the venue for three Formula 1 Grand Prix races between 1960 and 1962.
3/ Nyborg (finish stage 2)
The medieval city of Nyborg is the main gateway to the island of Fionie. The riders cross the Great Belt shipping channel.
4/Vejle (start of stage 3)
Vejle is located on the mainland and is formed by the Jutland peninsula. It is named after the fjord that dominates it. Sports fans will note that Vejle BK, a five-time winner of the football championship, produced the 1977 Ballon d'Or winner Allan Simonsen. His commitment to the club led him to finish his career with the same club, having played for Mönchengladbach and Barcelona, among others.
5/ Sønderborg (finish stage 3)
Located in the extreme south of Denmark, Sønderborg is just a few kilometres from the German border. The colourful houses and murals that brighten up the streets also attract tourists.
The former Danish world champion, Mads Pedersen, triumphed here during the 2nd stage of the last Tour of Denmark
6/ Aigle (start of stage 9)
Aigle is located at a crossroads of valleys in the eastern part of the canton of Vaud. The town has become especially familiar to cycling fans since the installation in 2002 of the headquarters of the International Cycling Union, on the site of a velodrome that also houses the World Cycling Centre.
Numerous Swiss, European and world championships have been organised on the 200-metre wooden ring, while the Tour de Romandie regularly sets up stage starts in Aigle
7/ Castelnau-Magnoac (start of 19th stage)
Its fame is worldwide thanks to its most famous child, who could only be a rugby player. Antoine Dupont touched his first balls at the ill-named Magnoac Football Club, long before playing for Stade Toulousain with whom he won the French championship (2019 and 2021) and the European Cup (2021). The scrum-half of the French team, named best player of the VI Nations Tournament in 2020, is very often crowned with the unofficial title of best number 9 on the planet. A status to be assumed as the 2023 World Cup approaches in France
8/ Lacapelle-Marival (start of stage 20)
The village of the Lot will make its entry in the club of the stage towns of the Tour, but the oldest of the Marival inhabitants certainly made the trip to Figeac in 2004 to attend the finish of the 11th stage. The characteristics of the day were bound to tickle David Moncoutié, tireless rider and especially the only rider from Lot in the peloton. He is used to try his luck, so it was no surprise to find him in the break, but this time, he managed to drop his two rivals Juan-Antonio Flecha and Egoi Martinez in the final. The former climber of Cofidis remains one of the few riders to have won in his home region.
9/ Rocamadour (20th stage finish)
In the Middle Ages, the town, which is flanked by a cliff in the Alzou valley, attracted large numbers of pilgrims who came to implore the Black Madonna, who performs miracles and watches over the relics of Saint Amadour.
The village gained notoriety with a new public much later with the release of Gérard Blanchard's hit, Rock Amadour.
In cycling, the 2020 edition of the Route d'Occitanie, which marked the resumption of activity after a period of strict confinement, made a stop in Rocamadour. Benoît Cosnefroy was the most explosive on the formidable final climb to the basilica and the castle.
