Is it true that we can meet kangaroos in the Var?

Hello Philippe!
It may seem surprising, but yes, it is possible to come across kangaroos in the Estérel massif.

These kangaroos, formerly residents of Phoenix Park in Nice, are now living in semi-liberty in the park of the Maison forestière des Trois Termes, thanks to the initiative of André Frey, a dedicated forestry technician.

Mr. Frey takes care of them on a hectare of land, in an environment adapted to their needs. He has all the necessary authorizations to look after these marsupials.

What should we do if we come across one?

It's essential to respect their space. Keep your distance, observe them without interacting. Don't feed them, don't take photos and, if you have a dog, make sure it stays on a leash and away from the kangaroos.

Although these animals are accustomed to human presence, it is important for visitors to respect their space and not disturb them. Interactions such as feeding or touching are discouraged for the animals' well-being.

The Côte d'Azur is full of surprises, and these kangaroos are a perfect example. Our region is unique, and we love to share its special features with you.

These kangaroos do exist in the Var. If you're lucky enough to come across them, please respect their life and habitat. It's an unusual encounter and an unforgettable souvenir of the Côte d'Azur.
